NYNY Storage Unit

Designed by Storagemilano
Made by Gebrüder Thonet Vienna

Distinctively asserting its modernity, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna has adopted its archetypes, bent-wood and woven cane, to design NYNY UNIT, a piece of furniture with a strong emotional dimension capable of imposing itself in space as the absolute protagonist of the scene.

With its versatile personality, this multifaceted design by storagemilano expresses an interdependence of design, architecture and art that draws inspiration from both the typical post-modernist styles and the graphic playfulness of the 1980s while creating an irregular development of perspective accentuated by the intense colour scheme.

The reference to architecture is also reflected in the name NYNY as New York, New York. The play of volumes of NYNY UNIT is, in fact, a tribute to the New Museum of Contemporary Art in Nolita, whose building expresses the archetypal forms of the Babylonian ziggurat.

With a totemic spirit, NYNY UNIT is defined in the asymmetrical superimposition of geometric volumes suspended with the support of the wall-mounted metal structure. Each volume corresponds to a specific function: below, two drawers, one high and one low; above, two compartments with doors; the lower one can also be used as a desk.

W: 64.9" x D: 17.7" x H: 78.7"

NYNY is a family of storage units composed by a vertical container with a totemic spirit, an horizontal sideboard and a chest of drawers. Each piece of furniture is respectively made up of four, six and two modules in lacquered wood with decorative elements in woven cane. The modules are suspended thanks to the metal structure, with satin brass finish, to be fixed to the wall.
